Trade Copiers and Prop Firms: What Each Firm's Rules Say

A trade copier lets you place an order on one "leader" account and have it mirrored to your other "follower" accounts. For prop traders running several evaluations or funded accounts, it saves clicking the same order five times. But each firm sets its own copy-trading policy, and they differ on who you can copy, which tools are allowed, which account stages are covered, and where orders may be sent from.

Below is what five futures firms' own help pages say, quoted and linked, as of 14 October 2026. Firms change these pages often, so treat this as a starting point and read the linked page before you connect anything.

Edgeable is trade-copying software. We aren't affiliated with or endorsed by any firm below, and listing a firm doesn't mean its rules permit any particular copier, including ours.

The rules that show up almost everywhere

  1. Copy only your own accounts. Copying another person's trades, or letting someone else trade for you, is prohibited at every firm we checked.
  2. No hedging across accounts. All copied accounts must be in the same direction. Long on one and short on another (same or correlated contract) is treated as hedging.
  3. You're responsible for the tool. Firms generally don't support, troubleshoot or reset accounts for copier errors.
  4. Account limits still apply. Copying doesn't raise the number of funded accounts you can hold.

Firm by firm (checked 14 Oct 2026)

Topstep

  • Built-in copier: TopstepX has a Trade Copier. "Trade copying is only available for Trading Combine® and Express Funded Account® accounts. Live Funded Account® accounts cannot use the Trade Copier." The Lead "must have the lowest Maximum Position Size (MPS) of all accounts in the group." (TopstepX help)
  • Trade copiers generally: the Combine FAQ says "You can also use a trade copier to duplicate trades across multiple accounts." (Trading Combine Parameters)
  • Where orders come from: for API access, "All trading activity must originate from your personal device. The use of VPS, VPNs, and remote servers is prohibited by Topstep's Terms of Use." A private server may log or display data but "cannot trade." (TopstepX API Access) This matters for any hosted or cloud copier. Read it before connecting a Topstep account to one.
  • Live Funded: "Live funded accounts are not allowed to trade through the ProjectX API." (same page)

Apex Trader Funding

  • "Copy trading across PA accounts under your personal name and business name is allowed. However, the hedging rule still applies; all PAs must trade in the same direction and not hedge against correlated assets."
  • Account cap: "The total limit is 20 active PA accounts across all people in the same house, companies, and connections." "There are no limits to Evaluation accounts." (Apex help)

MyFundedFutures (MFFU)

  • "MyFunded Futures allows copy trading across all account types." It names Tradesyncer as its preferred copier, says "Tradovate users can utilize the built-in group copier feature" and "External copy trading solutions can also be used."
  • Responsibility: MFFU "is not obligated to provide technical support, troubleshooting assistance, or account resets for any issues stemming from copy trading activities." (MFFU help, dated 24 Aug 2026)

Lucid Trading

  • "Automated trading systems and trade copiers are permitted. All automated activity must comply with Lucid Trading rules. Traders are fully responsible for any software errors, malfunctions, or unintended outcomes." (Lucid help, 26 Aug 2026)
  • Hedging across accounts is prohibited. (Lucid: Prohibited Hedging)

Tradeify

  • Its Risk & Compliance Guidelines (updated 15 Sep 2026) list "prohibited trade-copying" and "synchronized trading" among coordinated-trading violations with other traders, and say "Automated trading is permitted only as expressly allowed." (Tradeify Risk & Compliance FAQ)
  • Tradeify publishes separate articles on its own copier tools. Check its help center for the current copier policy before using a third-party tool.

How to choose a copier for prop accounts

Once your firm allows it, these are the questions that matter:

  • Platform coverage. Does it connect to the platform each firm issues accounts on? (Tradovate, Rithmic, TopstepX/ProjectX, etc.)
  • Cross-broker copying. Can a Tradovate leader copy to Rithmic and TopstepX followers?
  • Per-account sizing. Different multipliers per follower (×1 on a 50K, ×3 on a 150K) and a max-contracts cap.
  • Per-account guardrails. Daily loss limit, daily order cap, lockouts and a flatten-all control.
  • Brackets. Are stops and targets copied with the entry?
  • Where it runs. Desktop vs hosted. Check against your firm's rules on where orders may originate (see Topstep above).
  • What happens when one account fails. Does a rejected or slow follower hold up the others?

Questions people ask

Is copy trading allowed at prop firms?

Many futures firms allow copying between accounts you own, some only through approved or built-in tools, and some restrict where orders can be sent from. Copying someone else's trades is prohibited everywhere we checked.

Can you copy trade on Topstep?

Topstep's built-in TopstepX copier works on Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts, not Live Funded accounts. Its API rules also say trading must originate from your personal device and prohibit VPS and remote servers.

Can you copy trade on Apex?

Apex says copy trading across your own PA accounts (personal and business name) is allowed, provided all accounts trade the same direction, within a 20-active-PA household limit.

Can I copy trades between different prop firms?

Technically yes, if your copier supports both platforms. Whether it's allowed depends on every firm involved. Check each one's rules.

Will copying break the hedging rule?

Not if every follower takes the same direction as the leader. Problems start when a follower is reversed or one account is traded manually against the others.

Is a trade copier the same as a signal service?

No. A copier mirrors your own trades across your own accounts. Following someone else's signals or trades is a different thing, and prop firms generally prohibit it.

One leader, every account on its own connection.

Edgeable copies across Tradovate and Rithmic accounts and gives every follower its own connection, multiplier, max contracts, daily loss limit, lockout and panic flatten. Runs in the cloud. Check each firm's rules before you connect, including any rule on where orders may originate; our prop firm list links to them.
