Tradovate Trade Copier: Group Trade vs a Dedicated Copier

If your prop accounts sit on Tradovate, you have two ways to trade several of them at once: Tradovate's built-in Group Trade, or a third-party trade copier. Group Trade is free and fine for simple cases. A copier earns its place when your accounts span firms or brokers, when you want stops and targets on every account, or when each account needs its own limits.

What Tradovate Group Trade does

Group Trade lets you create a group of accounts in the account dropdown, set a quantity for each, and send one order that Tradovate splits across the group. Per Tradovate's Group Trade article:

  • It works in the Web and Desktop apps, not mobile.
  • It only groups accounts with the same brokerage provider. Accounts at two different prop firms can't be grouped.
  • ATM strategies (brackets) aren't supported, so stops and targets go on each account by hand.
  • Order size must be a multiple of the group's total quantity. A three-account group at 1 contract each takes orders of 3, 6, 9…

Group Trade works inside one provider. A copier connects each firm's login separately.

When Group Trade is enough

  • All accounts are at one firm on one Tradovate login.
  • You trade the same contract on all of them, from the screen.
  • Fixed per-account sizes are fine and you're happy placing exits manually.

If that's you, use it. No copier needed.

When a copier makes sense

  • Accounts across firms or brokers. E.g. a Tradovate leader with followers on Rithmic and TopstepX.
  • Brackets on every follower. The leader's stop and target copied with the entry (in beta in Edgeable).
  • Different sizing per account. ×1 on a 50K, ×3 on a 150K, without the multiple-of-total rule.
  • Per-account guardrails. A daily loss limit that stops copying to one account while the others continue; max contracts; daily order caps; lockouts.
  • One control to flatten everything.

How copying works in Edgeable (Tradovate leader)

  1. Connect Tradovate. From the Cockpit, choose Live or Demo, sign in on Tradovate's own page, and tick the accounts that come through. (guide)
  2. Add followers. Tradovate or Rithmic accounts, each on its own dedicated connection.
  3. Set guardrails per follower. Multiplier, max contracts, daily loss limit, daily order cap.
  4. Trade as usual on your leader. Orders go out to all followers in parallel, so a slow broker only delays its own account. Runs in the cloud.

Fills can still differ between accounts (price, timing, rejections), so check each account's positions.

Before you copy: check your firm's rules

Most firms that allow copying require that you copy only your own accounts and that every account trades the same direction (no hedging). Some have rules about which tools may be used or where orders can be sent from. See copy-trading rules by prop firm.

Don't double-copy

If a copier is mirroring your leader, don't also keep the followers in a Tradovate group with that leader. Each trade would be sent twice.

Use one copying method per follower, not both.

Questions people ask

Does Tradovate have a built-in trade copier?

It has Group Trade, which sends one order to several accounts with the same provider. It's not a cross-broker copier.

Can Tradovate Group Trade copy bracket orders?

No. ATM strategies aren't supported in Group Trade; stops and targets are placed manually on each account.

Can I copy trades between two prop firms on Tradovate?

Not with Group Trade: accounts must be with the same provider. A third-party copier that connects each firm's login separately can, if every firm's rules allow it.

Can I copy from Tradovate to Rithmic or TopstepX?

To Rithmic, yes, with a cross-broker copier such as Edgeable. For TopstepX, read Topstep's rules first: its API page says all trading activity must originate from your personal device and prohibits VPS, VPNs and remote servers. (Topstep)

Does Group Trade work on the Tradovate mobile app?

No, only the Web and Desktop apps.

Is copy trading allowed on Apex Tradovate accounts?

Apex says copying across your own PA accounts is allowed if they all trade the same direction, within its 20-active-PA limit. (Apex)

Guardrails are tools, not guarantees; orders can be delayed, rejected or filled differently across accounts. You're responsible for each firm's rules.
