Ratios and contract sizing

How Edgeable sizes follower orders: ratios, max-contracts caps, rounding, micros versus minis, and a sizing plan to set before you arm.

7 minIntermediateAll platforms

Every follower's order size comes from two settings on that follower: its ratio and its max-contracts cap. Group guardrails can then stop or pause copying, but they don't change the size of an order that does go out.

Ratio

The ratio multiplies the leader's quantity. With the leader buying 2 contracts:

Follower ratioFollower order
×12 contracts
×24 contracts
×0.51 contract

Futures trade in whole contracts, so fractional results are rounded. Check the Cockpit preview for the exact result on each follower; if a ratio would round a small leader order down to zero, that follower won't get an order. Fractional ratios are easiest to reason about when the leader trades in steps that divide cleanly.

Max contracts

The cap is a ceiling on any single copied order. A ×2 follower with a cap of 3 turns a 2-contract leader order into 3 contracts, not 4. Set it to the follower's own contract limit or lower. Your firm's rules on position size still apply, and staying inside them is your responsibility; the cap is a tool to help.

Group guardrails add Max exposure, which limits total open contracts on an account, so scaling in can't take you past it.

Micros and minis

If a follower should trade a different contract from the leader, for example MNQ on the follower when the leader trades NQ, use the Symbol map tab in Copy Groups. It maps a root symbol to the follower's root with a contract multiplier, and previews the resulting order per broker. One NQ is ten MNQ in notional terms, so map carefully and use the preview.

A sizing plan before you arm

  1. Write down each follower's contract limit and daily loss limit from your firm.
  2. Start every follower at ×1 with a cap at or below its limit.
  3. Set the group's max daily loss inside the tightest follower's daily limit.
  4. Run Test copy, then take one micro contract on the leader and check every follower's fill in Activity.
  5. Only then raise ratios, one follower at a time.
