Use Flatten All safely
What Edgeable's Flatten All does, when to use it, what it can't guarantee, and how guardrail actions flatten automatically.
Flatten All is the button in the Cockpit's top bar for when you want everything flat now. It closes every open position and cancels every working order across all your connected accounts.
What it does
- You choose Flatten All. The Cockpit asks you to confirm, and to type a confirmation so it can't be triggered by a stray click.
- Edgeable cancels working orders and sends market orders to close open positions on every connected account that can trade.
- The result is logged in Activity, including any order a broker rejected.
It can't be undone, and it uses market orders. In a fast market those can fill well away from the last price, and a broker can reject them (for example outside trading hours). Always check Positions afterwards.
When to use it
- Followers look out of sync with the leader and you'd rather be flat than work out why.
- A connection is failing mid-trade.
- You're stepping away and want a clean slate on every account.
To stop copying without closing anything, turn off the group's Copying switch instead.
Flattening the leader
If you close the leader in your trading platform while the group is armed, that's a normal leader fill and followers copy it. Flatten All doesn't rely on that: it acts on every account directly, which is why it's the one to use when copying itself is in doubt.
Automatic flattening
On the Guardrails page, each group has an action for when a rule is hit: Flatten only, Soft lockout, or Hard lockout, which flattens and blocks new trades for the set time. These act on the accounts that hit the rule, not every account.
Guardrails and Flatten All are software controls. They may not act in time in fast markets or during a broker outage. Read the risk disclosure.
